From your application perspective, you just have to establish a connection to your ISO/Bridge instance and exchange the properly formatted message (in this example, an XML message usually exchanged through a socket connection via TCP, could be a REST interface with JSON, etc.)

You can think of ISO/Bridge as a blackbox that sits between your application and the ISO-8583 host(s). It uses an extremely easy to implement XML-based protocol (JSON option available) that simplifies the burden of dealing with ISO-8583 messages, bitmaps, channels, packagers, headers, multiplexers and the like.
ISO-8583 implementations come in many different standard versions and flavors. Even hosts running software from the same vendor usually have major differences, due to customization, different software versions and patch levels.
That’s all there is to it, ISO/Bridge takes care of connecting to your remote host, multiplexing that connection, handle timeouts and reconnections, etc. you just have to focus on getting the right content into each field according to your specifications.
In addition to XML, we can extend ISO/Bridge in order to interface with your SQL database, message oriented middleware or just setup a filesystem based message exchange.
